In a recent editorial (“Fighting Medical Fraud,” Oct. 4), the Post-Gazette tells readers that “most fraud cases start with a patient” and then goes on to decry the fact that the bulk of fraud prosecutions are centered on 10 districts where Medicare Fraud Strike Forces have been assigned. But the editorial presents a false narrative. The vast majority of health care fraud cases are not brought by patients or government prosecutors, but by whistleblowers who file False Claims Act cases ($2.2 billion recovered in 2014). ......
